Arlene Jeanette Eager

MADELIA — Arlene Jeanette Eager, age 90, of Madelia, passed away peacefully on Oct. 11, 2019 at Living Meadows at Luther in Madelia surrounded by family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia, with visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

The clergy will be Rev. Krista Strum. Interment following the service will be at Riverside Cemetery in Madelia.

Arlene Jeanette (Johnson) Eager was born to Herman and Dora (Oren) Johnson in Hanska on Sept. 1, 1929. She was a graduate of Hanska High School in 1947. On May 15, 1948 Arlene married Leonard Eager at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska and together have seven children. She was employed at Village Drug in Madelia and served many cups of coffee behind the soda fountain. Arlene also worked as a physical therapy aide and home care aide for the Madelia Community Hospital. She enjoyed singing, gardening, sewing, reading, cross-country skiing, and making lefse with her grandchildren. There was always a pot of coffee on and you would usually find Arlene sitting at her kitchen table with family and friends. She was President of the VFW Auxiliary in 1991, and served in many capacities at Trinity Lutheran Church as altar guild, Circle and Sunday school teacher. She was very proud of being 100% Norwegian, and was lucky enough to travel to her grandparents’ farm in Norway with her oldest granddaughter.

Arlene is survived by her children, Jeanne Kappel of Maple Grove, Les Eager of Le Center, Lynnae (Jerry) Mueller of Prior Lake, Debbie (Ron) Becker of Madelia, Brad Eager of Reno, NV, Larry Eager of Madelia, Natalie Fuller of Reno, NV; sister, Ila (John) Hansen of Eagle Lake, sister-in-law, Betty Johnson of Winthrop; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Eager; parents, Herman and Dora Johnson; granddaughter, Ashley Eager; brothers, Gaylord, Harlow and Julene Johnson; sister, Helen McAdams; daughter-in-law, Dori Eager, and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia. On line condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
