Della (Mrs. Orville) Larson

WINTHROP — Della (Mrs. Orville) Larson, age 91, of Winthrop, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at the Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Rev. Erik Karlson will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery in Winthrop.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church prior to the service.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.

Della Justine Lydia Stelter was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Dryden Township, rural Gaylord, to Paul and Anna (Helle) Stelter. She attended rural school near Gaylord and graduated from Gaylord High School in 1945. She began working at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company at the age of 16, and worked there from 1944 to August of 1955. She was employed as a telephone operator and as a service representative. Della met her future husband, Orville Larson, at the roller rink in the Gaylord City Park. She married Orville Sept. 4, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, rural Gaylord. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Laurie and Lisa. After marriage, Della was a full-time homemaker and helped Orville and his brother Edmund with the farm activities. She was active in her church, serving as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and was a member of the WELCA. She was a member of the Home Extension group in Cornish Township. She served as a 4-H leader for many years. She volunteered many years by leading devotions at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center. She enjoyed traveling, and in retirement, enjoyed bus trips with Orville and her brother-in-law Edmund. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, crocheting, playing cards, music, gardening, word search puzzles, and attending her grandchildren’s school activities. When she needed assistance with daily care, Della became a resident of Autumn Lane, the memory care unit at Oak Terrace. She lived there for four years and nine months. While at Oak Terrace, she enjoyed Bingo, music programs and coffee.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Laurie Larson of Winthrop and Lisa (Paul) Uecker of Gaylord; grandchildren, Amanda Uecker of Rapid City, SD and Brandon Uecker of Gaylord; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Anna Stelter; husband, Orville on June 11, 2019; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Harold Hahn, Ruth and Clarence Harbarth, and Helen and Raymond Uecker; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernest Larson, Arvid and Maxine Larson, Luella and Gunnar Davidson, Edmund Larson, and Ardella Larson; nieces and nephews, Connie Kottke, Carol Hed, Larry Harbarth, and Roger Harbarth.
