Dayton C. Goddard, Jr.

MARIETTA, Ohio — Dayton C. Goddard, Jr., 97, of Marietta, Ohio passed away on September 3, 2019, at Harmar Place in Marietta.

He was born on January 18, 1922 in Bartlett, OH to Dayton C. and Leota B. Kinney Goddard.

In 1947 he went to work at B.F. Goodrich in Marietta. In 1959, Dayton was transferred to New Ulm, MN, to help start up a Goodrich extrusion and gasket fabrication plant there. He spent 18 years in MN as the plant engineer before returning to the Marietta plant, from which he retired in 1987 after 40 years with Goodrich.

On June 5, 1949, Dayton married Martha Callie Poling of Bartlett. They were married 54 years. As agreed upon prior to her passing, Callie was cremated and her ashes will be placed in the casket with him.

Surviving are his daughter, Brenda G. Sharp (James) of Waverly, WV; sons, Stephen D. Goddard of Williamstown, WV and Michael J. Goddard (Katherine) of Lewis Center, OH; grandchildren, Stacey Sharp-Rosel (Fabian) of Steubenville, OH; Jennifer Malone (Timothy) of Waverly, WV; Jasmine Hernandez (Gerardo) of Mooresville, NC; Jacob Goddard (Krystalin) of Akron, OH; Jylian Goddard of Steubenville, OH; and triplets Ethan, Laura, and Sarah Goddard of Middlebourne, WV; great grandchildren, Bianca, Callie, and Maria Hernandez of Mooresville; Isaac, Spencer and Nina Rosel of Steubenville; sisters, Joan Sherlock of Grove City and Jane Thorn (Paul) of Belpre; sister-in-law Alice Jean Goddard of Galion, OH; and numerous nieces nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brother, William Goddard; brother-in-law Arthur Sherlock, and niece Carla Thorn McDaniel.

In lieu of flowers, Dayton wished donations to be made in his memory to the Putnam Congregational Church, 707 Masonic Park Road, Marietta, OH 45750.
