Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at the Church of St. Paul in Nicollet. Father Dennis Labat will celebrate the Mass, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes have been entrusted with handling the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday and continue from 10:00-11:00 am on Saturday at the Church of St. Paul in Nicollet. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday at the church.

Gerry Leonard was born April 3rd,1928 in Nicollet, Minnesota to Henry and Leocadia (Berger) Wentzlaff. Gerry grew up on Wentzlaff’s Island on Swan Lake and attended Nicollet Public School. While working at her parent’s café, she met Donald Leonard and they were married in 1946 at St Paul’s Catholic Church in Nicollet. Together they raised a family of six. In addition to being a homemaker, Gerry did daycare for several local children. As their children became adults, Gerry worked for the USPS in Nicollet and Mankato, later serving as Postmaster in Nicollet from 1978 to 1989. Gerry volunteered her time at several places including: St Peter State Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Bloodmobiles, and senior citizen driver. She was a proud member of St Paul’s Catholic Church, serving in numerous capacities and receiving all her sacraments there. Gerry was a member of the Nicollet Legion Auxiliary Post 510, and served as a bailiff for Nicollet County.

Gerry lived her life with purpose and she was continually busy doing something for others. Of particular pride were the numerous quilts that she made for the homeless. Each year she would donate between 40-50 quilts that she had sewn. Gerry enjoyed her flower gardens and took great pride in them.

Gerry was a proud parent of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Grandchildren: Shannon Richardson, Brad Leonard, Kristen Wise, Beau Kennedy, Sarah McCarty, Ben Mayer, Katie Fritz, Luke Mayer, Abby Kath, Lindsay Nelson, Blake Leonard and Ashley Leonard.

Great Grandchildren: Brandon, Domanique, Kolin, Nick, Ryan, Hannah, Erin, Joe, Addelade, Jackson, Cavan, Kagan, Kaelee, Konnor, Caleb, Bella, Ava, Parker, Evie, Braxton, Mila, Lucy, Bennett, Ryder, Olivia, Huntley, Colten.

Also surviving Gerry is her sister Virginia Christle, sister in-law Audrey Schneider, many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband Donald, infant child Bradley and granddaughter Ashley Leonard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashley Leonard Memorial Fund, Pregnancy Choices, or donor’s choice.
