NEW ULM — Lucilla M. Schultz, age 92, of New Ulm, died Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 11 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cathedral.

Lucilla is survived by her daughters, JoAnn (Joe) Kamerud, Mary Kirschstein, and Roselyn Doerre, all of New Ulm; son, Jerry (Theresa) Schultz of New Ulm; daughter-in-law Cindy Schultz; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome in 2016; a son, Gene; her parents; granddaughter, Mary Anna Kirschstein; sister, Annabel Weber; brother, Leonard Saffert; and sons-in-law, Willie Kirschstein and Howie Doerre.

Lucilla Marie Saffert was born on February 9, 1927 in New Ulm to Joseph & Anna (Liebl) Saffert. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School. During and after high school Lucilla worked at Eibner’s Restaurant and Och’s Department Store in New Ulm. On May 14, 1947 she was united in marriage to Jerome Schultz at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. From 1949 until 2001, Lucilla was employed as a bookkeeper for Schultz Plumbing and Heating. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Society and the Christian Mothers, and a lifelong member of Cathedral Parish. Lucilla liked crocheting, embroidery, playing cards, and entertaining. She also enjoyed spending time and traveling with family and friends. Everything Lucilla did was out of love and was centered around her family, especially her grandchildren. Blessed be her memory.
