Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes – SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Pastor Timothy Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Soldier’s Rest section of the New Ulm City Cemetery. The New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Wayne is survived by his sister, Sheryll (Glenn) Classen of New Ulm; brothers, Doug (Doris) Schmies-ing of New Ulm, David (Jody) Schmiesing of New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Wayne Leslie Schmiesing was born November 4, 1948 to Harvey and Ruby (Nelson) Schmiesing in Madelia. He graduated from Hanska High School and then enlisted in the Air Force. Wayne served his country as a mechanic and technician until returning to civilian life. He worked as a self-employed mechanic for semi-trucks and as tech support for Dell Computers, until dementia forced him to retire. When Wayne was not working, he enjoyed scuba diving, flying, skiing in the winter, and being a member of the American Legion in Texas. Wayne especially treasured all the time he was able to spend with his friends and family. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
