Frederick “Fritz” Blauert

NEW ULM — Frederick W. Blauert, age 85, of New Ulm, MN, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center, Sleepy Eye, MN.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 16th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, South Chapel, including a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. A second funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18th at Morrison Zion Lutheran Church, Morrison, WI. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. and the service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service.

Frederick was born to Edgar and Johanna (Natzke) Blauert on December 10, 1933, at Morrison, WI. He was baptized and confirmed at Morrison Zion Ev. Lutheran Church. He attended Concordia College Preparatory and Northwestern Preparatory; graduating from Northwestern Preparatory in 1951. He then attended D.M.L.C., New Ulm, MN, graduating in 1956, having accepted an emergency call to St. Peter’s Lutheran School, Collins, WI for one year. His teaching positions included (and/or) principal, teacher, organist, and choir director at Zion Lutheran School, Rhinelander, WI, 1956-1964; Morrison Zion Lutheran School, Morrison, WI, 1964-1975; St. Paul’s Lutheran School, New Ulm, MN, 1975-2000. He also directed the Handbell Choir at St. Paul’s, New Ulm, MN and served on many boards and committees. He retired in 2000 after teaching for 45 years. “…Well done, good and faithful servant!” Matt. 25:21.

He is survived by sisters, Martha Bartel, Sheboygan, WI, Lois Zeamer, DePere, WI, Joan (David) Yets, Milwaukee, WI, and Arlene Stolte, New Ulm, MN; sisters-in-law Adaline Blauert, Brillion, WI, Gloria Blauert, Greenleaf, WI, Sandra Blauert, DePere, WI, and Joan (Jon) Oswald, Milwaukee, WI, and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Victor, Robert, Edgar Jr., Howard, Karl, Armin (in infancy); sisters, Margaret Schlicht, Sarah Kirby, Ruth Webster; brothers-in-law, Roy Schlicht, Marlin Bartel, Ervin Zeamer, Robert Kirby; sisters-in-law, Ruth Blauert, Marie Blauert; many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Frederick, “Fritz” will always be remembered fondly for his home-made WI-style chili, parties entertaining many DMLC college students, home-made sauerkraut, gardening, and playing sheepshead.
