Ribbon cutting for new business

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce Willkommen Committee held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for New Ulm Smoke Shop Thursday.
The shop is managed by Sammy Sarameh. His family runs similar stores in Mankato. He said for years customers at the Mankato stores were asking for a shop closer to New Ulm. Business has been strong since the day the shop opened. Sarameh is hoping to hire additional staff in a few months.
The most impressive part of the new business is the humidity controlled room in which the shop displays its cigars. Sarameh said the room needs constant humidity control to ensure the cigars don’t lose flavor.
The new tobacco shop opened January 14 and is adjacent to Hy-Vee. The hours for the business are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
