Laurie Jean Rettmann

Laurie Jean Rettmann, age 44, of Winthrop, passed away surrounded by her loving family on September 3 after a long battle with cancer.

She was born on September 20, 1973 to Lawrence and Vera (Towers) Rettmann. She was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop and confirmed into her faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart. She attended school in Stewart until her family moved to Winthrop where she attended GFW High School.

Laurie fought a long hard battle with cancer and was so very courageous through it all. She rarely complained and amazed us all. She was in remission for 9 months before the cancer came back. She fought so hard again, but eventually entered hospice on August 6.

Laurie enjoyed playing Bingo. She played weekly at Hahns and at the Winthrop Nursing Home with her mom. She liked going for walks, going to Red Lobster and Starbucks. scrap booking, and spending time with her family. She created a “bucket list” when she entered hospice and her brother was determined to make them all happen. She took a day trip to Duluth and the North Shore. She had a “girls day” and got a manicure and pedicure. She enjoyed many special movie nights with family and friends who provided any food that she requested. One of the highlights of her last days was reconnecting with her childhood friend, Nikki. She cherished the time they shared together. Her greatest achievement was her three children. She loved them unconditionally and was always so proud of them. One of the last things she was able to do before her cancer diagnosis was attend her daughter Ashley’s wedding.

Laurie is survived by her three children, daughter Ashley Weber and her husband, Hunter, and sons Dakota and Brock, all of Hutchinson; her parents, Lawrence and Vera Rettmann, of Winthrop; her brother Andy, his wife Nickie. and their children. Cole and Ella, also of Winthrop, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Amy and Jennifer and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Pastor Bob Miner will officiate, burial will follow at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Stewart. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Friday. Sept. 7, at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Laurie will be missed so much by everyone who knew and loved her. Whenever you see a blue butterfly think of her!!
