Bennett C. Tauer

SLEEPY EYE — Bennett C. Tauer, age 82, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on August 19, 2018, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center.

Funeral Service will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 10:30 am.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 10am Friday morning at the funeral home.

The clergy will be Msgr. Eugene Lozinski.

Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Military Honors provided by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

Bennett Clarence Tauer was born on March 2, 1936 in Sleepy Eye, MN to Raymond J. & Mathilda (Domeier) Tauer. He grew up in Sleepy Eye and attended St. Mary’s School. After high school he helped on the farm before serving in the U.S. Army from1955 to1957. He returned to Sleepy Eye and drove taxi in New Ulm and worked construction for various building grain elevators. As a young man he moved to Arizona, traveling all over the United States working for Boilermakers Union. He joined NTM (Boilermakers Union) and Phoenix 627 (Boilermakers Union). Bennett loved to fly, became a flight instructor and purchased four airplanes. He later returned to Sleepy Eye. He enjoyed traveling, visiting every state except Hawaii. He enjoyed jogging, entering marathons, playing cards, especially rummy and watching the Twins, Vikings and Gophers. Bennett was the most agreeable, kind man who never complained about anything. He always appreciated anything anyone did for him and he was loved by many.

He is survived by sisters-in-law, Peggy A. Tauer of Sleepy Eye and Patricia “Pat” Tauer of St. Peter’s, MO. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Janet Tauer, James (Denise) Tauer, Joel (Mary) Tauer, Andrea Tauer (Dan Baumann), Carole Tauer (Will Bowser), William (Brenda) Tauer, Valerie (John) Kranz, Leah (Anthony) Vee, Mary (Robert) Mackenzie, Mark Tauer, Paul (Mary Beth) Tauer and Betsy Tauer. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ray, Elroy “Al” and Leander and sister, Mary Anne Tauer.
