Mark Arkell

LAMBERTON — Mark Arkell age 46, of Lamberton, MN died on May 18, 2018, in Lamberton, MN.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton Chapel and will continue on Wednesday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lamberton, MN.

Service will be held at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Lamberton on Wednesday at 10:30 am.

The clergy will be Pastor Mark Jamison. Interment will be at the Lamberton Cemetery.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton, MN. On line condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Mark was born on June 27, 1971 at Springfield Hospital to Raymond Jr. and Carol (Jeckell) Arkell. Mark grew up on the family farm south of Lamberton until moving to town in 1982.

Mark was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lamberton. He graduated from Sanborn/Lamberton High School in 1990 and Southwest State University, Marshall with a degree in History Education and a coaching certification.

Mark loved all sports and is most known for his ability on the wrestling mat and football field. He was voted KNUJ Wrestler of the Year his junior year of high school. He went to state wrestling three years in a row. His junior year he was runner up with a record of 35 and 1 for the year. His first year on varsity football, he was voted Rookie of the Year.

Southwest State in Marshall recruited Mark for both wrestling and football.

Mark worked as a night manager at HyVee in Marshall until he moved home where he worked at the Meadowland Feed Mill. Mark loved being closer to his family and being involved in the community. He quickly started coaching youth basketball, soccer, football and baseball. He was also in charge of open gym on Sundays at the school. Mark had a gift for relating to children of all ages and greatly enjoyed giving guidance and encouragement. Even after death, Mark continued his giving as an organ donor.

Mark’s other hobbies included playing darts, cards, tennis, softball, basketball, bicycling, fishing, grilling, farming, and watching old western movies. He was always eager to discuss John Wayne movies or American history.

Mark is survived by his father Raymond, siblings, Michele (Chris) Kennedy of Mankato, Matt Arkell of Lamberton, Rich (Bridget) Arkell of Lamberton, and Nicole (Brian) Kramin of Lamberton. Nieces and nephews, Brian, Ashley, & Aidan Kennedy and Karli & Corey Arkell. Also, many other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Carol and his grandparents, Raymond Sr. and Elizabeth Arkell and Albert and Virginia Jeckell.
