Richard Nelson

NEW ULM — Richard Nelson, 74, of New Ulm died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Friday, April 27, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska with Pastor Sarah Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Friday.

Richard is survived by his sister, Laverne (Ernie) Williams of Sun City West, Arizona; brothers, Clinton (Darlene) Nelson and Wayne (Patricia) Nelson all of Hanska; sister-in-law, Sandra Nelson of Hanska; nephews, David (June) Nelson, James Nundahl, Randy Nundahl, Tim (Kristy) Nelson, Peter (Jackie) Nelson, Patrick (Missy) Nelson, William (Rani) Nelson, Ron (Shelly) Nelson; nieces, Jeanne (Dick) Willis, Elizabeth (Rick Eggert) Nelson, Sheila (Jim Burcham) Mosenden and Ruth (Keith) Frederickson; aunt, Bea (Bob) Schwingler; special great nephew, Dillon Brueske and 7 other great-nephews, 12 great-nieces and 12 great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Nelson; special friend, Arlene Kitzberger-Clyne; nephews, Steve Nundahl, Craig Nundahl, Michael Nelson; and a niece, Allyson Nelson.

Richard Allen Nelson was born January 18, 1944 in New Ulm to Odin and Marie (Odegard) Nelson. He attended Hanska schools. Richard was employed as a custodian at Union Hospital, Loretto Hospital and then Brown County Courthouse until his retirement in December, 2017.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, past member of the Lake Hanska Sportsman’s Club and enjoyed Black Powder events.
