Velma Voigt

NEW ULM — Velma Voigt, 96, of New Ulm died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm with Pastor Jo Anne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Greg) Rasmussen of Alexandria, sons, Lowell Voigt of Grove City, Loren (Jolene) Voigt of Eagan; grandchildren, Roger (Amy) Voigt, Shari (Rick) Weir, Nancy Voigt, Todd Voigt, Kristen Voigt (special friend, Richard Ouradnik), Travis (Emily) Rasmussen, Tracye (Patrick) Eiselt; eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Voigt; daughter-in-law, Shirley Voigt; brothers, Ervin Hartung, Gerald Hartung.

Velma Hulda Mary Hartung was born on September 24, 1920 in Welcome to George and Sigrid (Hagestad) Hartung. On February 21, 1943 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Voigt on the family farm. After marriage they farmed in Martin County. Velma enjoyed writing poems, gardening, cooking, reading, playing board games and cards, working word search puzzles, and researching family geneology. Velma was a member of First United Methodist Church in New Ulm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to: American Cancer Society, Arthritis Foundation or the D.A.V.
