Fr. Leland C. Mead

Fr. Leland Clarence Mead, age 76, of Madison Lake, died Friday, July 14, 2017, at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2017, at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the mass at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter. Memorials may be given to the New Ulm Diocese or the Church of St. Peter.

Leland was born June 5, 1941, in St. Peter. He was the son of Clarence and Ann (Weir) Mead. Leland attended Loyola High School in Mankato and was a graduate of Nazareth Hall and St. Paul Seminary. He was ordained on March 9, 1968, at New Ulm Cathedral. Leland was assigned to St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. He served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 until 1992, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Following his military service, Leland returned to serve as a substitute pastor in the New Ulm and Winona Dioceses. He was passionate about his Irish heritage and took several trips to Ireland. Leland enjoyed having lunch with fellow clergy in New Ulm.

Leland is survived by his siblings, Harold (Pat) Mead of Nicollet, Janie Mead of St. Peter, Gregory (Connie) Mead of Eden Prairie, Charles “Tim” (Carol) Mead of Mankato, Rosanne Blumenshein of Bemidji, and Lawrence (Kathy) Mead of Waterville; and also many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Lynn Blumenshein.
