Irene was born on August 17, 1931 in New Ulm. She graduated from New Ulm Public School in 1949. On March 2, 1952 she married Earl Knutson. Together they raised four girls; Gwen, Shelley, Dawn, and Darcy. She would like to thank all her friends for the time spent together and especially her family for always being there. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and neighborhood coffee parties.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Shelley (Johnnie) Strange, New Ulm, Dawn (John) Thompson, Mankato, Darcy (Curtis) Hughes, Mesa AZ; grandchildren, Eric, Ryan and Rachel (Jared), Ryan; great grandchildren, Shane, Skyler, Kaylee, Clara, Nicholas and Ethan; and sister, Carole Ulrich. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Knutson; daughter, Gwen Franke; and brother-in-law, Gerald Ulrich.

Irene chose to have no memorial service as she wished to go “quietly into the night”.
