Norbert Sonnabend
NEW ULM — Norbert Sonnabend, 85 of New Ulm, died on Monday, March 6th, 2017 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 11 AM Thursday, March 9, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Grant Bode officiating. Burial will take place in the Mount Hope Cemetery in St. James at a later date.
Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Thursday.

Norbert is survived by his daughter Lori (Jerry) Wendinger of Fairfax; sons, David (Amy) Sonnabend of Wilson, Wisconsin, Daryl (Gail) Sonnabend of Darfur; a sister, Erma Larson of Spearfish, South Dakota; sister-in-law and companion, Charlene Sonnabend of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Luella Sonnabend of St. James; 5 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a dog, Bubba; and a cat, Skinner.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elayne ; his parents; a daughter, Gina Sonnabend; three sisters and five brothers.
Norbert Norman Sonnabend was born on September 30th, 1931 in St. James to Herman and Bertha (Trebesch) Sonnabend. He served in the U.S. Army from February, 1952 – November, 1953. Norbert was united in marriage to Elayne Knaak on December 20, 1953 at the Ministry of the Gospel Methodist Church in St. James. After marriage he worked as a farmhand in Fairmont and then farmed near Comfrey. They moved to New Ulm in 1978 where Norbert was employed at Heyman Construction, AMPI and the Lamplighter. He enjoyed woodworking, lawn work and feeding the birds.
Norbert was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
