Lois was born on January 16th, 1926 to Henry and Mary (Youngman) Ahle in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Lois attended and graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1944. She went on to attend St. Olaf College and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. After college she moved back to Sleepy Eye to assist in bookkeeping work for her father’s plumbing business. Shortly after moving back, she married Lester Maas of Sleepy Eye on January 21st, 1951. She spent her entire life being a farm wife and mother to two children on their family farm northeast of Sleepy Eye. Some of her hobbies included archery, gardening, ceramics, golf, painting, and playing many various card games including bridge. Because Lois loved taking care of others, she served on the hospital auxiliary board, Women of Grace, and volunteered on miscellaneous projects at Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Lester and Lois enjoyed twenty-one consecutive years of traveling to Mesa, Arizona as snowbirds. While in Arizona, she enjoyed shuffleboard, playing cards, painting and going for walks.

Lois is survived by her loving husband, Lester Maas, of 65 years. Also surviving are her sister, Helen (Ahle) Turner, of Tuscon, Arizona, her daughter, Janette Maas, of Newnan, Georgia, her son, John (Mary) Maas of Sleepy Eye, her grandson, Taylor (Chelsey) Maas of Richfield, her step-grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Bushard of Shakopee and Travis (Leslie) Keil of Eden Prairie, and one great grandson, Noah Bushard.
