Troy Shult
WINTHROP – Troy Shult, age 83, of Winthrop passed away Monday, February 9, 2015, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 14, at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with Reverend Paul Tessmer officiating. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, February 13, from 4-8 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Troy Henry Shult was born on August 22, 1931, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was the son of Alfred and Mary (Mehlhop) Shult. Troy was baptized as an infant on September 27, 1931, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on June 10, 1945, both by Reverend Wm. Kuehner at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop. He received his education in Winthrop and was a graduate of the Winthrop High School Class of 1949. He furthered his education at St. Paul TVI, graduating as a Certified Watchmaker.
On April 18, 1953, Troy was united in marriage to LaDonna Bode at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet, Minnesota, by Pastor E. Schaller. After their marriage, they made their home in Winthrop. From 1989-1994, they owned and operated a jewelry store, “The Goldworks” in the Madison East Mall in Mankato, with their son, Douglas and his family. Troy later worked at repairing clocks and watches from his home. Troy and Donna were blessed with four sons. They shared 61 years of marriage.
Troy was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop, serving on the church council, ushering, and other various committees. He was past chairman of the Minnesota Watchmakers Association, serving on the Board of Watchmakers, and also on the Governors Board of Examiners. He repaired clocks and watches for 45 years for many people in the area. He was an Ambulance Crew member for 18 years.
Troy enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, telling them stories of his youth and taking them hunting and fishing.
Troy is survived by his wife, Donna Shult of Winthrop, MN; sons, Steven Shult and his wife, Jolene of Duluth, MN, Douglas Shult and his wife, Laurie of Mankato, MN, and Brian Shult and his wife, Nancy of Hudson, WI; grandchildren, Kristin Blomquist and her husband, Daniel, Matthew Shult and his wife, Sarah, Nathan Shult, Meghan Shult and her fianc, Eathan Doyle, Benjamin Shult, Wade Shult, and Lauren Shult; great-grandchildren, Ana, Bailey, Levi, Sofia, and Silas Blomquist; sister-in-law, Fern Shult; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Virgil and Evelyn Bode; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dianne and Robert Wolff; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary Shult; son, Bradley Shult; brother, Duane Shult; nephew, Craig Wolff; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, LaRoy and Alma Bode.
