Vernis ‘Vern’ Peterson
FAIRFAX-Vernis “Vern” Peterson, 65, of Fairfax, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at his home in Fairfax.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax with burial in Ft. Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgely Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota. Military Honors by the Fairfax Honor Guard.
Arrangements are with the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m., Saturday at the church.
Vernis “Vern” Myron Peterson was born on August 23, 1949, in Sleepy Eye, Minn., to Howard and Leora (Schroeder) Peterson.
Vern entered active military service on Jan. 30, 1968, and served his country in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Army Accommodation Medal, the Aerial Flight Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 18, 1970.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Peterson of Fairfax; children, Sara Waibel of Glencoe, Jennifer Henrichs of Fairfax, and Shawn Peterson of Willmar; and 5 grandchildren.
