Shirley H. Larson

Shirley H. Larson, age 88, of Wells, MN, died Monday, August 4, 2014 at Country Neighbors in Mapleton, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 8, at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 7, from 4-8 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Pastor Laurie Stoeger will officiate and burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Shirley Helaine was born October 15, 1925 in Owatonna, MN, the daughter of Swen and Helen (Nass) Blockhus. She married Edwin “Chick” Larson on September 23, 1945 in Owatonna, MN. Shirley loved singing in the church choir, dancing, cooking and baking. She was a member of the DAVA Chapter 22, former State Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Auxillary, and a member and past president of the Wells American Legion Auxillary, Unit 210, as well as the Nisswa Legion Auxillary and Color Guard. She liked to play cards, was an avid reader, and would rarely miss an episode of Jeopardy. Shirley was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells and Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Stephen (Joan) Larson of New Ulm, Deborah Whittington of Wells, William Larson of Merrifield, MN, Shelley (Charles) Tibodeau of Wells, Christopher (Resa) Larson of Independence, MN, Carolyn (Michael) Wedin of Nisswa; 12 grandchildren: Kristen Strauss, Adam and Phillip Whittington, Samuel, Cameron and Hannah Larson, Lesley Tibodeau, Lyssa (Jade) Warmka, Ashley (Adam) Grunzke, Allison Schmidt, Abbey (Sam) Curtis, and Ethan Larson; great-grandchildren, Jelena Strauss, Emmett Strauss, Hudson Warmka, Paisley Grunzke, and Hadley Grunzke; brothers, Donald and Robert (Jane) Blockhus; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Chick; grandson William “Billy” Larson; and sister-in-law Wanda Blockhus.
