BEST HOTEL/MOTEL Best Western Plus
Congratulations to the Best Western Plus for being
recognized as the Readers Choice for the best hotel
in New Ulm. It is located at 2101 South Broadway
Street.
“We are so honored to be recognized by the people
that live here. It is really humbling and amazing. We
have been fortunate enough to win this award for
the last couple of years,” said Mae Geidel, General
Manager.
Geidel has worked at the Best Western Plus in New
Ulm for the last two and a half years. “I do also work
with the Convention and Visitors Bureau with the
city so that makes this award even more special,” she
added.
“I think the reason we won this was award has to
do with the great team of employees that we have
here. That includes everyone from the front desk staff,
to housekeeping, to maintenance, and the hospitality
company that owns us. We care a lot about our guests
and the city. We are here to serve the city and the
people that need our services,” said Geidel.
Geidel manages every department and oversees the
front desk along with Jen Derksen, Guest Services
Manager. Geidel’s position basically is to provide
support and solve crises.
The hotel employees about 30 people. That does
not include the Green Mill Restaurant or New Ulm
Conference Center which are connected to the hotel.
Geidel explained, “The hotel does work closely with
the Conference Center so rooms are made available
when the Conference Center books conferences. We
also work with the Green Mill Restaurant when they
are coordinating events. The hotel, conference center
and the restaurant are all owned by the same company,
Bird Dog Hospitality.”
The hotel recently finished guest room renovations.
It included new furniture in the guest rooms, including
new headboards and new mattresses in about three
fourths of the rooms. Last year they painted the outside
of the hotel to give it a more updated feel. “But, the
interior was kept as is to keep the old German charm,”
said Geidel.
“We want to continue to do what we are doing.
Serving the people that want to visit this awesome city.
We do not have any specific or big changes coming
up. I think we are just trying to keep things updated
as we go along. We also want to keep giving the same
service. That is not going to change,” added Geidel.
“I really can’t stress enough how amazing the
people that work here are. Housekeeping just won an
award from corporate for how clean the rooms are kept.
Maintenance is working tirelessly to keep everything
up to guest standards and satisfaction. The front desk
is continuously working to be sure that everyone who
stays has an amazing time,” said Geidel.
She continued, “I would just like to thank the
employees here. They know that I love them. If I get a
chance to say it, I will shout it from the rooftops. Our
employees are what sets us apart and we love this city
and the people that we serve.”
