New Ulm Police

• Took a report at 2:02 p.m. Friday from a 31-year-old St. James Walmart automotive center employee who said a 57-year-old New Ulm male customer was upset over a past service appointment, took a swing at him and missed. The New Ulm man said he was verbally assaulted by the Walmart employee and that the employee swung at him. A video review showed the customer swinging at the employee but the employee did not swing at the customer. Reports went to Brown County Probation and the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for assault and disorderly conduct.

• Stopped a vehicle for a moving violation at Broadway and 5th Street South at 1:22 a.m. Saturday. Impairment signs were detected from the driver, a 21-year-old New Ulm male. He was arrested, transported to the Brown County Jail and cited for fourth-degree DWI.

• Talked to a 55-year-old New Ulm man at 6:01 p.m. Saturday who said he did not receive $390 in Menard’s rebates. A check with Menard’s showed the rebates were redeemed. The report is being investigated.

• Officers were requested at the Brown County Evaluation Center at 5:34 p.m. Saturday and at the Brown County Jail at 11:21 p.m. Saturday regarding threats of violence to jail staff and officer from a 38-year-old Willmar man. Reports went to Brown County Probation, the Swift County Sheriff’s Office and Brown County Attorney’s Office for consideration of threats of violence charges.

• Received a two-vehicle crash report without reported injuries on snowy road conditions on the 1200 block of State Street North at 8:31 a.m. Tuesday. A 2012 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Patrick Gerald Flor, 59, New Ulm, backed out of a driveway and collided with a 2020 Ford Ecosport driven northbound by Kathryn Julie Heyer, 61, New Ulm. Damage was minor to the Chevy pickup and moderate to the Ford.

• Received a physical domestic assault call at 1:42 p.m. Monday. Police talked to a 65-year-old New Ulm woman and a 72-year-old New Ulm man. No signs of injury were detected on either party. The woman said the man is suffering from dementia. A report went to Brown County Human Services.

• Stopped a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old Madelia boy for a moving violation at 7:13 pm. Monday at Broadway and 18th Street North. A marijuana odor was detected. The passenger, a 17-year-old LaSalle boy, was cited for open package of cannabis in a motor vehicle, third-degree misdemeanor possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis under age 21. Reports went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office and Minnesota Department of Corrections.

• Took a report at 10:11 a.m. Tuesday of a 38-year-old New Ulm man who sent disturbing messages to his psychiatrist about himself and law enforcement. Police tried to call the man but only got text messages telling them to leave him alone. A report went to Brown County Human Services.

• Talked to a 73-year-old man and 68-year-old woman, both of New Ulm, at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday. The couple said they had a check altered that was written to their insurance company in the amount of $356.40. The check was altered to $1,960, payable to a person, not the insurance company. The couple contacted their local bank. A report was sent to investigators.
