New Ulm Police
• Responded to a two-vehicle crash without reported injuries at Garden Street and 1st North Street at 4:10 pm. Wednesday. A 2001 car driven southbound on Garden Street by Patrick Portner, 47, New Ulm, rear-ended a southbound 2019 SUV driven by Laurie Klimes, 63, Lafayette, who yielded to a pedestrian crossing the street. Both drivers wore seat belts. The front end of the car and rear end of the SUV were damaged.
• Received a theft report at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday about the theft of a Chrome Book valued at $2,500. A 28-year-old New Ulm woman said her son, a 15-year-old male, stole her Chrome Book. The woman did not wish to file charges. A report went to Brown County Human Services.
• Arrested and transported a 64-year-old Winthrop man at Menard’s at 5:44 p.m. Wednesday. Police were told by a caller that the man was recognized as having a Renville County arrest warrant for threats of violence. The man was transported to the Brown County Jail.
Sleepy Eye Police
• Received a call about suspicious activity at 1:40 p.m. Thursday near Main Street and 5th Ave. N.E. Police said several unmarked sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and confirmed several U.S Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained and interviewed a Sleepy Eye man outside a residence for about 20 minutes before releasing him. Police talked to the man after the encounter, verified that he was OK. Police said no more information was available. A report was done for documentation.
