New Ulm Police
• Stopped a vehicle for driving conduct at 9:50 p.m. Friday at County Road 13 and 225th St., Cottonwood Township. Police talked to a 40-year-old New Ulm woman who showed impairment signs. Due to a conflict of interest, the Minnesota State Patrol was contacted to take over the investigation. The woman was arrested for DWI by the State Patrol.
• Stopped a vehicle for a moving violation at 11 p.m. Friday on Monument Street. Police talked to the driver, a 23-year-old New Ulm man, and noticed many knives and weapons in the backseat. The man was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for charge consideration of carrying a BB gun in a public place.
• Took a call at 11:31 p.m. Friday from a concerned family member about concerning text messages from her brother. A 51-year-old New Ulm man sent messages that he was considering harming someone. The man has a history of mental health issues. A report was done for documentation.
• Received a call at 12:07 a.m. Saturday from a concerned citizen about an intoxicated man leaving a bar and driving away in a vehicle. Police made contact with the driver, a 46-year-old Moses Lake, WA. Man, who showed signs of impairment. He admitted to illegal mushroom use before being stopped. He was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail.
• A 16-year-old New Ulm boy called police after sending a nude photo of himself to someone he thought was a girl on Instagram. The recipient asked for $100 or they would sent it to all his Instagram friends. A report was done for documentation.
• Stopped a driver for failing to use a turn signal at 11:01 p.m. Saturday at Broadway and 20th Street South. Impairment signs were noticed on the driver, a 64-year-old Byron man. He refused to exit the vehicle for field sobriety tests. Once outside the vehicle, he refused to do the tests and was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for DWI and obstructing the legal process charge consideration.
• Stopped a driver for an equipment violation at 1:21 a.m. Sunday at 5th St. N. and Payne St. Police recognized a backseat passenger currently on Brown County Probation. The 36-year-old New Ulm man’s probation agent was contacted. He requested a breath sample be obtained for the man. After the sample was obtained, the man was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. The agent issued an apprehension and detention order for the man. A report went to Brown County Probation.
• Stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at 2:07 a.m. Sunday at Franklin St. N. and 11th St. N. Police talked to a 37-year-old New Ulm man who showed impairment signs. The man also had Nicollet and Brown County warrants. He was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for consideration of driving after revocation, 5th-degree controlled substance possession, felon in possession of ammunition and DWI.
• Stopped a vehicle at 10:21 p.m. Sunday at the 400 block of S. Broadway for not using a turn signal. Police talked to a 40-year-old New Ulm woman. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of an Ignition Interlock violation, no insurance and intent to to escape vehicle registration tax.
• Took a report at 7:45 a.m. Monday from a 54-year-old New Ulm man who sent a $500 down payment for a motorcycle he tried to buy from a private party online. The man believed he was scammed and may be out $500. He was still communicating with the seller but no longer wanted the motorcycle. A report was done for documentation.
• Stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at 11:18 p.m. Monday at Payne St. and 4th St. S. Three men were arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail–a 30-year-old Fairfax man, a 60-year-old Dennison, Tx. Man and 35-year-old New Ulm man. A report for consideration of 1st and 5th degree controlled substances, obstructing the legal process and disorderly conduct charges was sent to the Brown County Attorney’s Office.
• Received a two-vehicle crash report at 5:04 p.m. Friday at Broadway and 4th St. N. Ashley Virginia Warren, 38, New Ulm, was driving a 2014 Volkswagen north on Broadway when she collided with a 2014 Ford Mustang driven eastbound by William Lloyd Shanks, 21, Wausau, Wi. Warren claimed injuries to her stomach and neck. She was not transported by ambulance. Both drivers wore seat belts. The Volkswagen had front end damage. The Mustang had rear fender and rear damage.
• Received a three-vehicle crash report with no reported injuries at 7:12 p.m. Sept. 24 at Broadway and 12 St. N. All three vehicles were northbound on Broadway in a funeral escort procession line–Nicole Marie Neumann, 42, Lafayette, driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee; Tara Rose Batson, 19, Redwood Falls, driving a 2013 Mazda 3; and William Lewis Nissen, 19, Gibbon, driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado. The Mazda had severe front and rear damage. The Jeep had minor front damage. The Chevrolet had minor rear damage. All three drivers wore seat belts.
