New Ulm Police
• Took a call at 11:19 a.m. Tuesday from a T-Mobile security employee about a phone call the Mankato T-Mobile store took from a 40-year-old New Ulm man who threatened store employees. Officers were not able to contact the suspect. A report went to the Mankato Department of Public Safety.
• Responded to Walmart for a trespass complaint at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday. A 33-year-old Wells woman in the store was earlier served a trespass notice. The woman told police she thought the trespass letter was for the Waseca Walmart. She admitted she didn’t read the letter that read she is banned from all Walmart stores. A 29-year-old Madelia man with the Wells woman confessed he possessed stolen property in his backpack from the trip to the New Ulm store. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for trespass charges against the woman and theft charges against the man. No dollar amount for the stolen items was listed. A report also went to Blue Earth County Probation.
• Police conducting unannounced checks Tuesday on area sex offenders went to a residence and learned from the offender’s ex-girlfriend, that the 38-year-old man no longer lived at the residence. She gave a possible rural Nicollet County location. Reports went to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office and Nicollet County Attorney for violation of predatory offender registration.
• Talked to a 46-year-old woman incarcerated in the Brown County Jail who reported an incident she was involved with in February 2024 involving a 59-year-old Mankato man chasing her with a chainsaw. It was learned the incident happened at a Sibley County farm. The woman reported the same man punched her in the face in April 2024 while they lived in a tent near 12th North and Front St. in New Ulm. The report is under investigation.
• Responded to a report of a belligerent man at Smiley’s Tavern at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. Police handcuffed a 54-year-old New Ulm man for his behavior and transported him to detox. He was cited for disorderly conduct and issued a trespass notice by Smiley’s Tavern. A report was done for documentation.
• Received a call from Walmart at 8:54 p.m. Tuesday about individuals removing an anti-theft device from a package and placing a car stereo in a purse. Police talked to a 37-year-old Litchfield woman who denied stealing the stereo and said it was left at the garden center. After video footage of the theft is obtained, it will be sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of theft charges.
