Sibley County Sheriff’s Office
• Responded to a two-vehicle crash at 2:08 p.m. Friday on 300th Street (CR 25) near 561st Avenue, Cornish Township, a mile south of Winthrop. Jereome Schmidt, 83, Winthrop, was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on CR 25 when he collided with a 1995 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Willem Durandt, 49, Gibbon. The semi was loaded with fertilizer, parked on the shoulder of eastbound CR 25.
A female passenger in the Jeep was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The semi had minor damage. The Jeep had heavy, disabling damage. Winthrop Ambulance and Fire assisted.
New Ulm Police
• Took a call about an explosion at New Ulm Steel & Recycling on 19th St. South at 1:31 p.m. Friday. An officer went to the business and was informed the noise was a backfire, not an explosion. A report went to New Ulm City Hall.
• Officers were at Kwik Trip North on N. Broadway at 5:43 p.m. Friday when he noticed a 45-year-old Courtland man in the store who was the subject of an attempt to locate regarding an harassment situation. Officers arrested the man and transported him to the Brown County Jail.
• Took a report of a missing non-verbal, autisic eight-year-old New Ulm girl at 1:23 p.m. Saturday. The girl was located walking near the former Nicklasson store on S. Broadway. Officers waited for the parents to arrive. A report went to Brown County Human Services.
• Took a report of a package theft at Broadway Haus at 8:46 a.m. Saturday. A 44-year-old New Ulm woman said a pair of jeans arrived and was left in the front commons area but the package was gone when she went to retrieve it. The jeans were valued at $52.92. Police are waiting for a surveillance video to arrive.
• Took a report of a 20-year-old female group home client missing for an extended period of time at 12:52 a.m. Sunday. The woman returned to the home about 90 minutes later. A report went to Yellow Medicine County Human Services.
• Took a criminal damage to property report of a broken front window at the Riverbend Area Learning Center School at 9:36 a.m. Sunday. No damage estimate was available. Police are waiting for video surveillance.
• Spoke with a 20-year-old New Ulm woman at 12:53 p.m. Sunday who said she got a direct message on Tik Tok from a 38-year-old Madelia man whom she had a Harassment Restraining Order against. The man told police he thought the order expired. He admitted to contacting the woman on Tik Tok. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for review.
• Responded to a group home Sunday about a client assaulting a staff member. A 33-year-old Janesville woman said the client locked her out of the house. She said she tried to get into the house and the client punched her in the face, slapped her and pushed her out of the window. The client, a 32-year-old New Ulm man said he agreed with the sequence of events. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of fifth-degree assault charges.
