New Ulm Police

• Responded to animal complaints involving two pit bulls reported to bite two individuals at Oakwood Estates, 2526 S. Bridge at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday. Allina Ambulance transported a 63-year-old New Ulm woman and a 53-year-old New Ulm woman to New Ulm Medical Center for injuries. Officers found one of the dogs but could not locate an owner. A dog was taken to the animal shelter. The other dog was not located. Police were later informed the other dog was wandering in a park. The owners, a 23-year-old New Ulm woman and 24-year-old New Ulm man were cited for allowing a dog to run at large. The other dog was seized and taken to the animal shelter. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for a seized dog considered dangerous charges.

• Took a report at 2:08 p.m. Thursday from a 20-year-old New Ulm woman who received an anonymous letter at her place of employment. She said the letter suggested she kill herself. The woman has an idea who the letter author may be but didn’t want to reveal it in case it was not accurate.

• Talked to a 40-year-old New Ulm woman who said she was scammed out of more than $5,000 from someone from Florida claiming to be romantically interested in her. The man claimed he would come to New Ulm but had too much debt and asked for money to help pay it off. A report was done for documentation.

Sibley County Sheriff

• Responded to a two-vehicle crash at CR 8 and 4 at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday. Samson Alemu, 36, Springfield, Va. Was driving a semi westbound on CR 8, failed to stop at the intersection and hit a car driven northbound on CR 4 by Kari Vassar, 53, Winthrop. Damage was heavy, disabling to both vehicles. Vassar had moderate to severe injuries and was airlifted by North Air Care. Alemu said he was not injured. Assisting agencies were Lafayette Fire, Allina Ambulance, Winthrop Fire and Ambulance, the Minnesota State Patrol, North Air Care and Five Star Towing.
