New Ulm Police
• Met with a 44-year-old New Ulm woman at 5:51 p.m. Thursday who said she was just assaulted by her boyfriend, a 38-year-old New Ulm man. Officers met with the suspect who fled on foot after he was told he was under arrest for domestic assault. The man was transported to the Brown County Jail. A report was sent to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for consideration of gross misdemeanor domestic assault, fleeing on foot, and obstructing the legal process. The woman did not seek medical attention.
• Responded to detox at 9:57 p.m. Thursday for a report of a 42-year-old Mankato male patient that just assaulted staff and fled the facility. Officers learned a 67-year-old New Ulm detox employee tried to protect another staff member, a 44-year New Ulm woman. During the struggle, the suspect got hold of an item that allowed him to access an exit door. Officers viewed a surveillance video that showed an SUV outside that may have been waiting for the suspect. The male detox employee was transported by ambulance to New Ulm Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for consideration of fifth-degree assault and escape from custody charges.
• Responded to a report of a man throwing garbage all over a yard on the 500 block, State St. S. at 12:06 p.m. Friday. Officers located the suspect, an intoxicated, 51-year-old New Ulm man. The suspect’s probation officer was contacted. He asked that the man be transported to detox. A report was sent to Brown County Probation.
• Noticed a 36-year-old New Ulm man driving in the Cash Wise Foods parking lot at 6:06 p.m. Friday who had an arrest warrant. The man showed impairment signs and was arrested on the warrant, for DWI and transported to detox. A report went to Brown County Probation and the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of second-degree DWI charges.
• Responded to a domestic call on 16th St. N. at 7:15 p.m. Friday. Police talked with a 36-year-old New Ulm man who said he was upset that a 29-year-old New Ulm woman for verbally abusing his daughter. The man said the woman pinched him in the arm, causing him to bleed. The woman left the area before police arrived. Medical attention was not sought. A report went to the city attorney’s office for consideration of domestic assault charges.
• Talked with a home support provider for a 19-year-old New Ulm female at 1:08 p.m. Saturday who said she received a message from the female “wishing she would get shot.” Officers talked with the female who admitted to sending the text but had no means to carry out the plan. She refused any other assistance. A report went to Brown County Human Services.
• Responded to New Ulm Medical Center at 7:34 a.m. Sunday about a discharged patient refusing to leave. Officers met an uncooperative 46-year-old St. Paul man who would not accept a no trespass order Allina Security was trying to serve. Identifying the man, police found an alert that he has a history of assaulting law enforcement. The man later left the medical center on his own. A report was done for documentation.
• A 31-year-old New Ulm man told police at 8:38 a.m. Sunday that someone smeared pizza on his vehicle and stole $45 worth of beer in it in front of his residence on the 900 block of Franklin St. N. A nearby vehicle also had pizza smeared on it. A report was done for documentation.
• Took a vandalism report of a Red Wing pot used as a flower pot that was smashed on the 1600 block of S. Payne St. at 2:40 p.m. Monday. The pot’s value was estimated at $15. A report was done for documentation.
• Received a two-vehicle crash report with minor injuries at State St. and 3rd St. S. at 11:56 a.m. June 27. A 2021 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Christine Lois DeSouza, 62, New Ulm was southbound on State St. when a 2012 Ford Flex driven westbound by Donna Elizabeth Wilson, 46, Tucson, Az. Collided, not yielding to a yield sign. The Chevrolet had disabling driver’s side and passenger side door damage. The Ford had front end damage. DeSouza had minor injuries but was not transported. Both drivers wore seat belts.
• Received a two-vehicle crash report without injuries at 1:02 p.m. June 20 at 8th North and Broadway. A 2013 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Alex David Waibel, 38, New Ulm, was at an 8th N. St. stop sign when a 2017 GMC Yukon driven on Broadway by Courtney Danielle Christensen, 31, New Ulm, switched to the right lane from the left lane and collided with the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet had front and driver’s side fender damage. The GMC had front passenger side fender and front end damage. Both drivers wore seat belts.
Sibley County Sheriff’s Office
• Responded to a one-vehicle crash without injuries at 11:29 a.m. Saturday at CR 13 and 320th St. Chu Paw, 36, St. Paul, was driving a 2005 Honda Pilot, blew a tire, lost control and went into the ditch. Damage was disabling. Gaylord Fire and Ambulance assisted.
Minnesota State Patrol
• Reported a one-vehicle crash with non-life threatening injuries at 4:19 p.m. Saturday on Highway 68, Cottonwood Township, Brown County. Monte Jay Martin, 37, Lake Crystal, was driving a 2001 Honda XC883 motorcycle westbound, swerved to avoid a deer and crashed. Martin and a passenger, Adriana Zarate, 30, Lake Crystal, had non-life threatening injuries. Both people did not wear a helmet and were transported to New Ulm Medical Center. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Allina Ambulance assisted.
