Minnesota State Patrol
• Responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 19 near Main Street, Winthrop at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday. A Baja Raptor Z mobility scooter driven by Amy Elizabeth Swanson, 53, Winthrop, and a 2017 Ford Escape driven by Jessica Donelle Hertzog, 33, Janesville, were both eastbound on Highway 19 when they collided. Swanson was transported to New Ulm Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Both drivers wore seat belts. Alcohol was not involved. Winthrop Police and Ambulance and the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
New Ulm Police
• Responded to a two-vehicle crash at Broadway and 7th North Street at 4:09 p.m. Monday. A 2021 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Amanda Nicole Witt, 41, Gaylord, was eastbound on 7th North and was struck by a 2012 Honda Accord driven by Ashley Noelle Singleton, 17, Fairmont, who was turning left onto Broadway from 7th North St. Witt complained of chest pain and an airbag burn on her left arm. She was assessed by medical staff but refused to go to the hospital. Damage was moderately disabling to the front passenger side of the Chevrolet and moderate but functional to the front passenger side of the Honda. Both drivers wore seat belts.
• Conducted unannounced, state-mandated tobacco compliance checks Tuesday afternoon. A 20-year-old male tried to purchase tobacco at a business that possessed a tobacco license. Businesses that failed compliance checks were Casey’s General Store, the Holiday Station Store, Hy-Vee Foods, Hy-Vee Gas Station, Kwik Trip, Liquor Mart, Smoke ‘N Cloud Tobacco, and Smokes Plus. They will face a civil penalty. Individuals who sold the tobacco will face charges of furnishing tobacco to a person under age 21, a petty misdemeanor. Twelve other businesses passed compliance checks.
• Received a call at 3:56 p.m. Tuesday from a 41-year-old New Ulm woman who said she received a threat from a 59-year-old Hastings man on Facebook Messenger. The main claims the woman owes him money. The woman said she hasn’t seen or communicated with the man for more than three years. A report was done for documentation.
