Boeing factory strike ends as workers vote to accept contract

SEATTLE (AP) — A strike by 33,000 Boeing factory workers is coming to an end after more than seven weeks. The aerospace giant’s unionized machinists voted on Monday to accept a company contract offer that includes a 38% wage increase over four years. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers says 59% of its members who cast ballots agreed to approve the third Boeing offer put to a vote. The strike started in mid-September and deprived the company of much-needed cash by shutting down production at its factories in the Pacific Northwest. The union says the machinists it represents can return to work as soon as Wednesday. President Joe Biden congratulated the two sides.

Ruby slippers from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ are on the auction block

DALLAS (AP) — A pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz” are on the auction block nearly two decades after a thief stole the iconic shoes, convinced they were adorned with real jewels. Heritage Auctions in Dallas announced in a news release Monday that online bidding has started and will continue through Dec. 7. The iconic shoes were on loan to the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, when they were stolen in 2005. Their whereabouts remained a mystery until the FBI recovered them in 2018. The museum is among those vying for them.

Giuliani ordered to appear in court after missing deadline to turn over assets

A judge has ordered Rudy Giuliani to appear in a New York courtroom Thursday to explain why he missed a deadline to surrender his belongings as part of a $148 million defamation judgment. Federal Judge Lewis Liman issued the order late Monday. The lawyers for Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss say Giuliani has not turned over any of the items — including his $5 million Manhattan apartment — despite the Oct. 29 deadline having passed. Giuliani’s spokesperson says Giuliani has made the property available and accused Freeman and Moss’ lawyers of deception. Freeman and Moss won the defamation judgment over Giuliani’s false ballot fraud claims against them during the 2020 election.
