Student charged with killing 2 had previously threatened one of the victims

DENVER (AP) — A court document shows a college student accused of killing his roommate and another person in a Colorado dorm room this month told his roommate a month earlier he would “kill him” if he was asked to take out the trash again. According to the affidavit released Friday, the dispute in January was reported to campus police and housing officials at University of Colorado-Colorado Springs but there are no indications that university officials made any attempts to remove the suspect from the room despite multiple reports of conflicts. Nicholas Jordan is charged in the Feb. 16 killing of his roommate, 24-year-old Samuel Knopp, and 26-year-old Celie Rain Montgomery.

Former funeral home owner arrested after a corpse lay in a hearse for 2 years

DENVER (AP) — Police in Colorado have arrested a former funeral home owner accused of hiding a woman’s corpse in a hearse for two years and hoarding the cremated remains of at least 30 people. The arrest of 33-year-old Miles Harford is the latest allegation of misconduct by Colorado funeral home owners. The horrifying finds have underscored the laxness of state funeral home regulations and pressed lawmakers to try to strengthen laws. A grisly scene of urns stashed in a crawl space and the hearse where the woman’s body lay under blankets was discovered in early February during an eviction.

Checking a bag will cost more on United Airlines

CHICAGO (AP) — Now it’s United Airlines’ turn to raise fees for checking bags. United said Friday it will raise fees beginning with tickets booked on Saturday. The fee for checking a bag on a domestic flight will rise $5 — to $35 if paid in advance, or $40 if paid at the airport. The fee for a second checked bag is also going up by $5, climbing to $45 in advance online and $50 at the airport. The airline says passengers in premium cabins, holders of United-branded credit cards and customers with elite status in the airline’s frequent-flyer program will still be able to check a bag for free. United’s move comes just a few days after American Airlines announced similar increases.

Starting at $4.50/week.
