MILROY — Authorities have released the name of a Milroy man killed in a farm accident Wednesday. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office said Melvin Welu, 61, died after being trapped in a grain bin.

Emergency services were dispatched to a farm on the 13000 block of Minnesota Highway 19 around 9:33 a.m. Wednesday, for a report of a man trapped in grain. Agencies including several area fire departments worked to rescue Welu. However, he was pronounced dead around 11:19 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office said.

Funeral services for Welu will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milroy. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 3-7 p.m., with a Rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.
