Best Informed Greenhand and Ag Mech compete at regions

Sleepy Eye Future Farmer’s of America (FFA) members competed at Minnesota West Community & Technical College in Jackson, Minnesota, for the Region VI Ag Mech. and Best Informed Greenhand (BIG) Career Development Events (CDE’s) on Monday, March 9.
Four members competed in the Ag Mech CDE including: Trevor Rathman, Gavin Fischer, Nick Tauer, and Davin Suess.
The CDE included the five recognized areas of subject matter in agricultural mechanics: Agricultural Tractor & Equipment; Engine Systems; Metal Fabrication; Electrical Circuits, Motors & Controls; and Building Construction, Concrete, Masonry & Plumbing. Each contestant was tested in all five areas and had to complete a written examination, problem-solving situations, and performance skills.
The BIG competitors included: Karina Martinez, Natalie Fulmer, Kendall Haala, Aubree Rathman, Peyton Erickson, Rita Bocanegra, Kaylynn Como, Lily Uys, Ruby Tauer, Elsie Trebesch, and El San. The BIG Team will compete at State in April.
For the BIG Team competition, members took a written 50 question test to show their knowledge of FFA facts, parliamentary procedure, history, and important people in FFA.
