St. Peter Social Security town hall Tuesday
ST. PETERS — A town hall meeting regarding the Social Security Expansion Act is scheduled for 5 pm to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the St. Peter Community Center, 600 S. 5th Street, St. Peter Mn.
The town hall will discuss the Social Security Expansion Act and how it will have broad positive impacts to ensure long term viability for Social Security. The event is led by Brian Rohrenbach, a lifelong learner of Social Security, having first received survivor benefits at the age of 12 following his father’s passing. Rohrenbach will clarify how Social Security operates, debunk prevalent myths, and discuss how new legislation could extend its solvency by 75 years while restoring previously cut benefits.
For 90 years, Social Security has provided Americans with protection against income loss due to disability, death, or retirement. However, experts caution that the trust fund is projected to run out in seven years. If no action is taken, beneficiaries could face a benefit reduction of 20 percent or more. Notably, four out of ten retirees rely solely on Social Security for their income.
Attendees may RSVP at vote2protect.org/stpeter but it is not required.
The event is sponsored by the Democratic Farmer Labor Party’s Rural Caucus, the DFL Senior Caucus, and the DFL Disability Caucus. Refreshments will be served. For more information visit DFLruralcaucus.org.
