New Guard Armory grand opening set for Monday
NEW ULM — The Minnesota National Guard hosts a grand opening and tour of the New Ulm armory at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 22.
Construction of the 40,374 square foot facility at 2100 Palmer Avenue began in April 2024 with classrooms, fitness and learning center, LED lights, solar panels and a hybrid heat pump mechanical system.
“The New Ulm Armory is a shining example of carefully planned upgrades that will enhance training and readiness capabilities of our force,” said Minnesota Department of Military Affairs Executive Director Scott Rohweder.
Two years prior to armory construction for the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery Regiment, a new field maintenance shop opened adjacent to the new armory.
Soldiers at the New Ulm-based headquarters are trained to assist with the command and control of the battalion’s artillery fires plus logistics and administrative support.
