MnDOT seeks public input on snowplow names

ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is inviting the public to submit creative snowplow names for the agency’s sixth annual Name a Snowplow contest.

Past winners have included Plowy McPlowFace, We’re Off To See The Blizzard and Don’tcha Snow.

MnDOT encourages people to submit snowplow names ideas through the agency’s website. Submissions will be accepted through noon on Friday, Dec. 19.

This year’s contest includes a few basic rules:

• Each person may only submit one name.

• Submissions are limited to no more than 30 characters (including letters and spaces).

• Any submissions that include profanity or other inappropriate language will not be considered.

• Snowplows are nonpartisan. Politically inspired names or slogans will not be considered.

• Past winners will not be considered. A full list of past winners on our Name a Snowplow website.

MnDOT staff will review all submissions, select some of the best ideas, and invite the public to vote on their favorites in January 2026. The eight names that get the most votes will make their way onto a snowplow, one for each MnDOT district across the state.

Starting at $4.50/week.
