SLEEPY EYE — Last week Brown County 4-H celebrated National Volunteer Week.
The University of Minnesota Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program thrives on volunteer work. In honor of National Volunteer Week, Minnesota 4-H extended its gratitude to more than 8,000 volunteers across the state.
These individuals play a vital role in helping young people learn, grow, and lead. In Brown County, 68 volunteers contribute as club and project leaders, serve on committees, and provide guidance in various advisory roles.
Their support helps youth develop essential life skills, including leadership, community involvement, decision-making, and career readiness.
Each year, Minnesota 4-H highlights a select group of volunteers whose efforts have made a lasting impact in key program areas.
This year, Crystal and Jason Frederickson of Brown County are recognized for their extraordinary efforts as 2025 Minnesota 4-H Northern Light Honorees. Crystal and Jason have demonstrated unwavering dedication, perseverance, exceptional leadership, and hard work in re-establishing the 4-H shooting sports and wildlife projects in Brown County.
The Fredericksons have created a new avenue for families to join and participate in 4-H through a new project-based club called Bows and Triggers. They have poured countless hours into ensuring the success of the club and its members, from writing grant proposals and organizing club events, to encouraging and organizing participation in the state shoot.
Volunteerism in 4-H is a year-round effort. The contributions of individuals like the Fredericksons, along with the many others who give their time and talents, are what make 4-H in Brown County thrive.
