• Rec Center Independence week hours 5 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 3. (closing early). Closed all day on Thursday, July 4 and open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Friday July 5 (open late). Open regular hours Saturday and Sunday.
•Thursday July 11 Concert in German Park will feature the Original German Band performing at 7 p.m. Concerts are presented by the New Ulm Park and Rec Department and KNUJ Radio. Bring the family early to enjoy Rec on the Go from 6-7 p.m. and a puppet wagon show at 6:15 p.m. The following week’s concert will be held on THURSDAY JULY 18 with music by the Wendinger Band. •Wednesday Municipal Band Concerts are held in German Park Wednesdays throughout the summer.
• United Way’s Backpack Project provides new backpacks to area students who could benefit from backpacks packed full of appropriate school supplies. Volunteers assist in collecting, packing and distributing backpacks to students just in time for the new school year. Drop off school supplies and backpacks at the New Ulm Rec Center during building hours. Items needed include Elmer’s Glue (4 ox bottles), Crayola 24-count crayons, crayola broad tipped markers and colored pencils, glue sticks, large pink and pencil top erasers, pencil bags and boxes, scotch tape, dry erase markers, composition notebooks, 1-inch 3-ring binders, Fiskars kid scissors, spiral notebooks, 2-pocket folders, hand sanitizer, highlighters, post-it notes, number 2 pencils and lots of facial tissue.
•Session 3 swim lessons begin July 8 – please register at newulmmn.gov or in person at the Rec Center.
Swim Club’s next session begins July 16. The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. participants must be at least 8 and have passed level 4 swim lessons.
• Puppet Wagon shows run Tuesdays at Harman Park 9:30 a.m., Highland 10:15 a.m. and Lincoln at 11 a.m. and Thursdays at Washington 9:30, North 10:15 and Hermann Heights at 11. Then catch them at German Park at 6:15 p.m. prior to Concert in the Park.
•Rec on the Go is a traveling program that provides games, crafts and fun at designed times and locations through August 8. Tuesdays they will be at Highland Park 10-11:30 a.m. and Riverside Park 12-1:30 p.m. and Thursdays at North 10-11:30 a.m. and Lincoln 12-1:30 p.m. Catch them Thursday evenings before Concerts in the Park from 6-7 p.m. This program is made possible through a partnership and funding from Community Education.
• Camp Programs for 4-6 and 7-11 year olds provide a fun and safe environment for kids to socialize, create and get plenty of exercise. Check out the weeklong themes with flexible scheduling. Register online at newulmmn.gov
• Lincoln Park Pickleball Courts are closed until late July for construction. Pickleball is available at the Rec Center.
•Wading Pools at Lincoln and Washington Parks open daily 12:30-6 p.m. through August 18. These pools are for kids age 8 and under and have free admission. There is no lifeguard on duty. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Air temp must be at least 72 degrees or warmer for pools to open.
•Splash Pad is open daily 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Hermann Monument open daily Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. $3 Admission (children 5/under free with adult) Monument closed during inclement weather.
•Skating at the Civic Center open skate: Sundays 1:15-2:45 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
•Open Figure Skating available Mondays 1:15-2:30 p.m.
•Open Hockey at the Civic Center General Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., PW/younger Wednesdays 4-5:30 p.m. and Bant. And older Thursdays (through July 18) 8:15-9:30 p.m.
