Installation art returns to The Grand with ‘Can You See Me’

MSU Mankato Installation Art student Alyssa Hadler poses with her installation piece to be displayed at The Grand's 4 Pillars Gallery.

NEW ULM — Friday, April 5, The Grand Center for Arts & Culture welcomes Minnesota State University Mankato Installation Art students, to the 4 Pillars Gallery with the “Can You See Me?” exhibit.

For, the past several years, The Grand has partnered with Liz Miller’s Installation Art class to bring this art form to the gallery. By definition, Installation Art is the term used to describe large-scale, mixed-media constructions, often designed for a specific place or for a temporary period of time.

Can You See Me?, features the work of students enrolled in Installation Art this semester at Minnesota State University-Mankato. Each student was asked to create a 3′ x 6′ “screen” that is representative of something about themselves, and that has opening that allow viewers to look through the work. Individually, each screen is a self-reflection. Together, the screens interact with one another, the gallery space, and the audience. The exhibit features the work of students: Tabitha Bergstrom, Alyssa Hadler, Trevor Lanthier, Pierce Laplante, Sadie Mortenson, Mason Neuman, Hanna Rissman, Mallory Sylvester and Kyra Thor.

Can You See Me?, will host its Opening Reception on Friday, April 5 at 6:30pm. The exhibit will be on display from March 29 – April 26 at The Grand Center for Arts & Culture at 210 N. Minnesota St. The gallery is open Tuesday – Friday, from 10am-4pm and on Saturday from 11am – 4pm. This exhibit is free and all are welcome.
