“Coppélia” at State Street Theater

NEW ULM — The Mankato Pre-Professional Performing Company will dance the full-length ballet “Coppélia” on Sunday, March 8 at State Street Theater in New Ulmf.

As George Balanchine put it, “Just as Giselle is ballet’s great tragedy, so ‘Coppélia’ is its great comedy.” The ballet is an obvious deviation from Romantic ballets, which featured ethereal figures like sylphs and wilis, long tulle dresses for costumes (later known as Romantic tutus), and tragic endings. In contrast, “Coppélia” features human characters (that is, apart from Dr. Coppélius’s dolls), vibrant costumes, and ends with a happily ever after.

Performance starts at 2 p.m. at State Street Theater, 1 North State Street, New Ulm, MN. Handicap parking and entrance are available on Washington Street, through our backstage entrance.

Tickets for the performance are $12 adults and $9 students for children ages 3-12 and can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce, Hy-Vee, and online at statestreetnewulm.org. Pre-sale tickets will be available through Friday, March 7.

Tickets will also be available on the day of the event for $15 adults and $10 students for children ages 3-12. For further information, please contact statestreettheater@gmail.com or 507-359-9990.

Seventy percent of Haitians live in the countryside and most live below the poverty line on $2.00/day. They are vulnerable to continuing global natural disasters. Sukup Safe T Homes® modified grain bins provide secure and spacious shelter for rural families.
