Annual Advent Prayer Service to be held at Church of St. Mary, Bird Island

BIRD ISLAND — An Advent Prayer Service with the Most Reverend John M. LeVoir, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of New Ulm, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 220 S. 10th Street in Bird Island. Participants are encouraged to bring the baby Jesus figure from their home nativity set to be blessed individually by the bishop.

A swaddling clothes collection (blankets, sleepers, layette items) for babies in need will be collected. The public is welcome to attend.

Free Community Breakfast

NEW ULM — A free Community Breakfast will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, at First United Methodist Church on the corner of Center and Broadway in New Ulm.

Come from 8 to 10 a.m. for pancakes, eggs, sausage, and coffee. All are welcome.

Early Childhood Screening

NEW ULM — Early Childhood Screening is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec.. 11 and Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment only.

Screening is available to any child who is between the ages of 3 years and Kindergarten. During screening children will participate in an evaluation of speech, language, fine and gross motor skills, behavioral, social and emotional development, hearing and vision, height and weight measurement, immunization records, and a parental question and answer period.

Screening is free of charge and is required for entrance into Eagle’s Preschool, Headstart, and Kindergarten. Early Childhood Screening will be held at the Washington Learning Center, 910 14th Street North. Appointments will be 90 minutes long, and walk-ins will not be available. German caroling on Christmas Day

NEW ULM — Persons interested in celebrating Christmas Day with German Christmas carols are invited to join the German Speaking Club, Concord Singers, and local community members who will sing Weihnachtslieder as a prelude to the 8 a.m.Mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on Christmas Day, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The group will have rehearsals three Mondays in December, all from 7 to 8 p.m., including a final run-through at 7 a.m. Christmas morning.

Dates tentatively are Dec. 2, 9, and 16. The group will practice in the basement of Cathedral on the three dates at 7 p.m. For more information call Harvey Stadick at 507-359-4114.
