League of Women Voters to register voters on Sept. 24

NEW ULM — On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day with a massive 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day this November.

League of Women Voters New Ulm is a National Voter Registration Day partner. On Sept. 24, LWVNU will register voters at the following locations: Lola’s from 9:30 to 11 a.m.; MLC cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and at Riverbend Alternative Learning Center.

With local elections happening in some locations in a few weeks and with a presidential election set for next November, every eligible American voter should exercise his or her right to be heard at the ballot box. The right place to start is by getting registered.

Library to host Family History Month classes

NEW ULM — New Ulm Public Library invites you to a series of classes held in celebration of Family History Month.

On Friday, Oct. 4 at 8:30 a.m., Library Director Paulina Poplawska will lead an introduction to the Ancestry Library Edition genealogy database. On Friday, Oct. 11 at 8:30 a.m., Michael Jones of the Mankato Family History Center will lead an advanced Ancestry Library Edition class. On Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Molly Schweinfurter of Mojo Genealogy will lead workshops on personal digital archiving and writing your family history.

Registration is required for these free classes. These programs are made possible by a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative and are funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Call 507-359-8331 for more information.

Final Call for bus to “Phantom”

NEW ULM — New Ulm Community Education is sponosring at trip to “The Phantom of the Opera” at the Orpheum Theatre on Thursday Nov. 21 for the 1 p.m. show

Registration deadline is Sept. 27. The fee for the charter bus and ticket $75. The Bus will leave at 10:30am from the Middle School Parking Lot on South Garden Street.
