“A Night at the (BCHS) Museum” gala to revisit Prohibition with “In the ‘Still’ of the Night”

NEW ULM — Step back in time to the Prohibition era and meet characters like Al Capone, Carrie Nation, and Emma and George Marti at the Fourth Annual A Night at the (BCHS) Museum, In The “Still” Of The Night on Saturday Sept. 21.

Enjoy a beverage and appetizers while immersing yourself in the ambiance of the 1920s. The Sleepy Eye Concertina Club will put you in the mood with music while you find out who is making homemade booze and where they are hiding it.

Pick up a “hooch card” and fill it with signatures of the characters you meet during the social hour at the Brown County Museum and Annex Meeting Room from 5:15 pm – 6:45 pm. Own a piece of history by bidding on special artwork in the silent auction. Each piece is unique, painted by an area artist on an original slate tile from the roof of the museum.

The event continues at Lola’s Bistro where you will enjoy a special meal and desert starting at 7 p.m. Add to the excitement of the evening and attend in costume from the 1920s or recreate your favorite Prohibition character!

To reserve a seat at A Night at the (BCHS) Museum, call us at 507-233-2620, or email programs@browncountyhistorymn.org today. Tickets are $75 per person.

Newcomers event to be held

NEW ULM — The Willkommen Committee of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce will host “Welcome to the Party: Turning Newcomers into Neighbors” on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Turner Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids, and include a meal and family-friendly activities.

This event is targeted towards those New Ulm area residents who have moved to the community recently, and those who want to welcome newcomers to town. The goal of the night is to help them network and learn more about their community.

There will be opportunities to learn more about the city of New Ulm and a few tips for living and working in the New Ulm area. Attendees will have the opportunity to make connections with both New Ulm newcomers and natives. Door prizes will be drawn throughout the evening. This event is hosted by the Willkommen Committee of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce and is sponsored by various local businesses. These groups want to come together to make sure that people of all ages who are new to New Ulm don’t feel like “Auslanders” (German word for foreigners). Come meet some friendly new faces and learn more about our community!

Tickets to the event are available at the Chamber Office, 1 N Minnesota St, 507-233-4300, chamber@newulm.com. They are also available online at www.newulm.com. Any questions about the event, or for further details, please contact the New Ulm Area Chamber.
