Popcorn Wagon Blast on Saturday
NEW ULM — Celebrate the past at the Popcorn Wagon Blast on Saturday, SEPT. 29, at the Brown County Historical Society Museum in New Ulm. This event is free to the public and provides visitors opportunities to learn about the ballrooms and bands of Brown County.
Those who attend can enjoy live music, a display of images of ballrooms and bands of Brown County, children’s activities and popcorn. The entertainment features unique concertina players of the area including Steve Rewitzer, Chad & Cameron Mack and Leon Olsen.
Steve Rewitzer, of the Misftits, gives concertina lessons to eight-year old, Cameron Mack, and his father Chad. Rewitzer has been giving Cameron lessons for about a year. Chad decided to learn to play the concertina along with his son. Leon Olson has been playing concertina and entertaining audiences for over 50 years. He played his first job at age 11 and started his band shortly after. His band plays regularly throughout the United States.
Images and sounds of ballrooms and bands of Brown County will be displayed in the museum annex. The display includes photographs of the ballrooms, dance floors sites and bands. The annex is staged to provide the ambiance of ballrooms of the past and includes typical music of that era. Children’s activities will be provided.
