New Ulm Lions Club announce Spring Raffle Winners

NEW ULM — The Lions Club of New Ulm held the drawing for their “Spring Raffle” on the air at KNUJ radio studios on May 25. The first prize of $500 was won by Bill Brown. A $100 prize was won by each of the following: Tom Portner, Joanne Brennan, David Hirth, Betty Roiger and Lisa Besemer.

Historic Kiesling House opens for a 2nd season this weekend

NEW ULM — The historic Kiesling House opens for its second season this weekend, Saturday, May 27, and Sunday, May 28.

Explore the past at the Kiesling House constructed in 1861; it survived the US-Dakota War of 1862 and is the only wood-framed house from that era remaining in Brown County.

Get to know all about the Kiesling Family members, their journey from Germany and their lives in their new town of New Ulm. Learn about the disasters survived by the Kiesling family and the Kiesling house like locust plague and the cyclone of 1881.

Explore early pioneer settlement, customs and traditions of area immigrants and events like the Dakota War that shaped New Ulm. Examine the development of community and influence of social and political issues on area residents.

Hours: Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day on Saturday & Sunday: 1-4 p.m.; for group tours, spring, summer & fall and other times during special events in New Ulm
