Sleepy Eye school board OKs Class of 2027 trip

Advisor says students represented school well in Florida this year

SLEEPY EYE — After hearing about the recent Class of 2026 trip to Florida, the Sleepy Eye School Board unanimously approved the Class of 2027 trip to Florida Wednesday.

The Class of 2027 plans to visit Orlando March 17-21, 2027. Twenty-five students (75%) of the class have expressed interest in the trip currently estimated to cost $1,600 per student. The cost includes round trip airfare, checked luggage, hotel accommodations, theme park tickets, coach ground transportation, four meals and chaperones.

The class plans to visit Cocoa Beach, Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure, EPIC Universe and Disney Springs.

Class trip fundraisers include concession stand sales, car wash cards, Pastry Puffins and Driven Coffee Roaster sales.

Approval of the Class of 2027 trip to Florida came on a motion by board member Dan Marti, seconded by Casey Coulson.

Three Sleepy Eye High School Senior Class members and Class of 2026 Class Trip Co-Advisor Deb Reinarts described the recent class trip to Florida in detail to the Sleepy Eye School Board Wednesday.

“We had phenomenal cooperation. You should be very proud of the way they represented us as a school,” said Reinarts who advised the trip to Orlando theme parks, shopping, supper and Cocoa Beach with Cory Haala.

She said the class trip had some challenges.

“It was very cold at Cocoa Beach. Since we were in Florida during spring break, it was pretty crowded everywhere. The cost of food was a rude awakening for students,” said Reinarts.

The board also approved the resignation of activities director Cory Haala at the end of the 2025-26 school year. He has held the job since 2003 in addition to coaching a number of sports and teaching at the high school.

“It’s a big job. Thank you Cory.” Superintendent John Cselovszki said. “We have a couple people in mind (to follow Haala). Fortunately, Cory is interested assisting a new activities director next year.”

Starting at $4.50/week.
