NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf received a $1,286.44 donation from Hy-Vee Foods Wednesday.

New Ulm Hy-Vee Food Store Director Bill Kittler said donation funds came from Hy-Vee’s round-up program in which customers round up purchases at checkout to support the food shelf.

Kittler said the store also has a green bin near the front of the store for customers to donate food items that are collected weekly for the food shelf.

New Ulm Area Food Shelf Executive Director Brad Kirk said Hy-Vee’s financial donation will be used for overall expenses.

“We’ll use the funds for whatever we need it for, food or various operating expenses,” said Kirk.

He and Kittler thanked Hy-Vee customers for rounding up at checkout to support the food shelf.

The food shelf has other food donation boxes in New Ulm. Donations can also be made online via PayPal. Checks can be mailed to the New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf, P.O. Box 761, New Ulm, Mn 56073.

Food shelf volunteers are also needed. Call 507-766-4082 for more information.
