NU man faces six felony charges

Accused of firing shotgun, strangling victim near Essig ballpark

NEW ULM — A 22-year-old rural New Ulm man faces six felony charges for allegedly strangling a victim and firing a shotgun during a Feb. 10 altercation near Essig ballpark.

Bryce Curtis Flitter was charged with three counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of domestic assault by strangulation and two counts of intentional discharge of a firearm endangering public safety Feb. 12.

According to court documents, the Brown County Sheriffs’ Office responded to a residence at 11:19 p.m. Feb. 10 for a report of a fight and gunshots.

Deputies, Sleepy Eye Police and the Minnesota State Patrol set up a perimeter and learned Flitter fled the scene.

While talking with alleged victims, authorities noticed a white pickup turn west from Main Street onto 250th St. Pursuing the pickup, authorities confirmed from the license plate that it was the suspect’s vehicle, pulled it over near 250th St. and 220th Avenue. Flitter was into custody without incident.

Fitterer’s blood alcohol content was recorded at .112 on a Preliminary Breath Test at the Brown County Jail. Deputies collected a shotgun and 11 shotgun slugs from Flitter’s vehicle and two spent shotgun casings.

The incident allegedly began in a Sleepy Eye bar, where Flitter and two other individuals were playing bingo. They later traveled to Essig where a victim said Flitter began choking him around his neck.

The victim said Flitter pointed a shotgun at him before he grabbed the gun barrel and “ripped” it away from Flitter and ejected a remaining shotgun shell that was loaded in the gun.

Unconditional bail was set at $100,000, $20,000 with conditions Feb. 12. A hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 24 in Brown County District Court.

Starting at $4.50/week.
