LAKE HANSKA — The Brown County Sheriff’s Office restricted all vehicle traffic at the Lake Hanska south main landing due to open water and unsafe ice as of 8 a.m. Thursday.
The sheriff’s office received a report at 10:31 p.m. Wednesday of a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) side-by-side with a driver and passenger that went through Lake Hanska ice.
Both individuals were able to get out of the water, but broke through the ice again while heading off the lake on foot before they were able to get out of the water and off the lake safely.
The vehicle restriction includes all vehicles: trucks, cars, ATVs, and snowmobiles until further notice.
“This is due to poor ice conditions on the lake. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office will monitor ice conditions and allow vehicle traffic once ice conditions are safe,” read the release.
