Public hearings on street improvements set for Feb. 3

The section of State Street near the Brown County Fairgrounds is scheduled for a reconstruct in 2026. The New Ulm City Council scheduled a public hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 3 to allow public comment the State Street project and other roadway sections on the list.
NEW ULM – Two public hearing dates were set by the New Ulm City Council Tuesday for 2026 road surfacing, reconstruction and utility improvement projects.
The first public hearing is for the 2026 surface reconstruction projects on Jonathon Drive and Cottonwood Street. Both surface projects involve the removal and replacement of the road surfacing. No underground utility work is planned with the surfacing project.
The resurfacing on Jonathon Drive will be from Summit Avenue to McIntosh Drive. The resurfacing on Cottonwood Street will be from Broadway to Bridge Street. The estimated cost of the project is $318,330. The city will assess the properties that benefit from the street. The recommended assessment is 25% of the final project cost. Since the project will be assessed to the property owners, a public hearing is required before approving the project.
The second public hearing is for the 2026 Utility, Street and Alley Improvement projects. This list of projects included street and utility improvements on N. States Street and Oakwood Avenue, as well as five alley block sections and some sidewalk improvements.
The improvements to States Street include the section of road adjacent to the Brown County Fairgrounds from 12th N. to 16th N. The Oakwood Avenue improvements are for the section of road from Hazelwood Avenue to Hollywood Avenue. The improvements for both projects will include reconstruction of the existing water main, sanitary sewer main, sewer and water end services, storm sewer modifications, and reconstruction of the existing roadway section, concrete curb and gutter, pedestrian sidewalk ramps, street lighting and selective replacement of concrete driveway pavement.
